GEOFF BROWN TO STEP DOWN AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SPAA
Geoff Brown after sixteen years with SPAA, the last ten as CEO, has decided to call it a day.
“I have enjoyed every moment of my time at SPAA and have been blessed with great staff and supportive SPAA Councils but it’s time for a change. Recent events in my personal life have made me focus on the important things in life and I hope to find a new direction. This does not mean that I am retiring. I just want to move onto a new phase which will hopefully involve working in the industry in some other capacity.” said Geoff Brown.
He will continue through to the next SPAA Conference in November 2012 with a new CEO beginning in October 2012.
Brian Rosen, President of SPAA, said “ Geoff has been such a mainstay in the industry it will feel strange not having him there promulgating policy and holding the screen agencies and unions to account. SPAA will miss his energetic and strategic approach in tackling the difficult issues that face our industry each year. Since Geoff became CEO, SPAA has become a more cohesive and financially stronger organisation and we thank him for his tireless pursuit in achieving this outcome. We wish him well as he enjoys a good glass of red wine, a round of golf with his friends and board appointments.”
While at SPAA Geoff has been at the forefront of many changes that have occurred in the industry especially the merging of the federal screen agencies and the introduction of the Producer Offset. His last task is making sure that SPAA’s voice is clearly heard in the Convergence Review and the Minister of the Arts Cultural Review, both being delivered to government in March 2012.
