In Conversation with Mark Scott AO, Managing Director - ABC
Screen Producers Australia
Since his appointment as Managing Director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 2006, Mark Scott's leadership has seen the structure and operation of the public broadcaster transformed and its services and reach expanded across traditional broadcasting platforms and into new digital content areas.
As Managing Director he has led the organisation through a period of technological change and reinvestment that has provided new services to audiences such as ABC News 24, iView and the digital re-launch of Double J. Every week almost three quarters of Australians over the age of 18 access ABC content in some form.
Mark’s leadership has ensured the ABC continues its proud tradition of contributing to national culture and debate and adding to our rich storytelling heritage. The ABC continues to be the most trusted source of news for the majority of Australians.
Building on the ABC’s reputation as Australia’s leading digital media innovator, Mark has positioned the organisation as a source for comprehensive digital media services delivering content to its audiences on a device, format and at a time of their choosing.
Before joining the ABC, Mark served twelve years in a variety of editorial and executive positions with Fairfax Media including Editorial Director of Fairfax's newspaper and magazine division and Editor-in-Chief of Metropolitan, Regional and Community newspapers.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Education, and Master of Arts from the University of Sydney and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.
Mark Scott completes his terms as ABC Managing Director in April 2016.
