SPAA FRINGE – THE VOICE BEHIND FILM AND TV
Friday 24 October & Saturday 25 October 2008
Paddington Town Hall & Chauvel Cinema
Sydney
SPAA Fringe is an inspirational two-day film television and new media event presented by the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA).
Attending Fringe will allow you to hear and meet speakers and peers who are at the top of their field whether it be producing, writing, directing, editing, animation, gaming, design or other affiliated fields.
Speakers share the experience and expertise they have gained getting to where they are. If you are new to the screen industry or just need a good dose of inspiration, seeing these presentations will give your career invaluable insight and creative direction.
With more than 400 delegates attending last year and a history of prestigious keynote speakers including Rick McCallum, Producer Star Wars; Ben Batstone-Cunningham, Creator, Second Life; Andrew Mason, Producer, The Matrix; and Amy Hobby, Producer, Secretary, 2008 SPAA FRINGE is a creative hothouse set to inspire and provoke upcoming filmmakers.
With workshops, interactive activities, unique access to the industry’s top Producers and obligatory networking festivities such as Opening and Closing night drinks, 2008 also sees the return of Roundtables, which, with over 40 participants, facilitate a broader understanding of our guest's role in the industry, including the organisation of their company, and the types of projects they are interested in. 2008 SPAA FRINGE will also host over 50 One-on-One's which allow delegates to talk candidly for 30 minutes with a senior industry player about their project, career and funding opportunities.
Join the SPAA Fringe 2008 Facebook Group, providing delegates with the opportunity to meet people who are interested in similar projects or subjects. Start a discussion thread on the Facebook page and meet the people who share your passion, whether its science fiction, horror, doco, kids or whatever else that tickles your fancy.
What they had to say in 2007:
“SPAA Fringe is the place where the disconnected can connect. It allows out-there film projects and their filmmakers to come in from the cold and learn about the mainstream industry in a lively and challenging way that's not about compromising their creativity.”
Geoff Brown, Executive Director, SPAA
“Every year I travel to Cannes, Sundance, Berlin ...but Fringe is my favourite film event of the year. Australian filmmakers have a unique opportunity to learn the state-of-the-art, network with leaders in the field, and plot the overthrow of business as usual."
Peter Broderick, President, Paradigm and SPAA Fringe Patron
"This was the most.......useful conference I have ever attended and should become a model for training young practitioners in any film and television discipline"
Alex Prior, MD, Screen Hub 2007
“I think the diversity of the programme meant that it appealed to producers, writers and directors alike.”
Jeremy Macey, SPAA Fringe Delegate 2007
"Insightful, funny keynotes……Top that off with any number of great foyer/ lounge/ pub conversations with passionate emerging writers, producers and directors, all keen to swap war stories and contacts, and we have another awesome SPAA Fringe!"
Georgia Clarke, Winner of 2007 Holding Redlich Pitching Competition
